Navigating Transitions
Transitions can be scary and anxiety-inducing but they are a part of life, growth and transformation. What if there was a way to approach transitions in a more meaningful way?
It IS possible to navigate transitions with ease, grace and joy vs FEAR, stress and overwhelm.
Here are 3 ways to overcome fear in your transitions:
🦋 Think of a ritual that you maintain - meditation, walking your dog, your morning cup of coffee or tea. Ideally this is something that brings you to a place of mindfulness and being present and sparks a bit of joy somewhere within you. Even when life gets hectic, try your best to maintain at least one ritual at some point in your day for a minimum of 5 minutes. Knowing that you have consciously made this choice will spark some joy and appreciation for your resilience.
🦋 Oftentimes it is our perception which causes us to view things in a particular way. Whenever overwhelm is setting in, take 10 minutes to breath and tune into your center, this will allow you to become more present. Ask yourself -- What feels in alignment to tackle today - work, doing something you love, absolutely nothing? Don’t feel bad about whatever comes through and be confident and trust in yourself. Delete the "shoulds" and pay attention to what is; and most importantly, know that you always have this place to come back to.
🦋 Remember to practice gratitude. Even when everything appears to be going wrong or you feel completely insane and hopeless, there are undoubtedly several things that are working and going well - from the sun shining in the sky to the butterfly that just fluttered by. Even practicing gratitude for the tiniest, seemingly insignificant thing, is better than not.
Embrace transitions and have appreciation for these transformative experiences. More likely than not, this is not your first time making a big change or navigating a transition and you have undergone transformation before, most will experience numerous throughout life. Maybe it was a smooth ride or maybe you had some bumps and learned along the way, either way appreciate yourself and the experience and look forward to what you have to gain from this time.
Transitions don’t have to be scary, fearful and a huge cause of anxiety. If you are operating from a place of flow and alignment and you feel deeply and intuitively connected to your center and inner knowing, transitions can actually be quite exciting. When the fear and anxiety does creep up, remind yourself of the alternatives (grace, ease, joy, flow, alignment) when you come back to your daily rituals. Most importantly, have patience with and trust in yourself.
I have personally experienced several transitions over the last year including a career change, a foster parent transition and a relocation to a new country, not to mention the one we’ve all undergone - the COVID-19 pandemic. Whew! I have lived to tell the tale! And, if you are reading this, so have you. I feel excited, grateful and joyful to personally share in this experience that is occurring for every individual on earth right now. Prioritizing self-care, trusting in myself, as well as connecting with other like-minded souls, has been an essential part of these transitions and discovering the ways which I have shared with you above. I am not going to say any of it was easy, that there were not times of chaos, questioning, overwhelm, stress and doubt, or even that I’m fully on the other side just yet; but I will say I am learning, growing, evolving, healthy and happy and what more could I ask for than that.

A favorite quote of mine is “Home is where the heart is” by Pliny the Elder. To me this is a reminder that our homes are within us, in our hearts, in our centers. We always have this place available to come back to. It is a place of continuous connection to ourselves and subsequently to others. As we are all much more similar than society has programmed us to believe. I find this especially useful to keep in mind during transition adjustment periods - when I’m on the go or unsure of my next move. Enjoy the moment. There is always something to be grateful for.
